The evaluation for my project was categorized into three; an evaluation based off my feedback from my focus group, an evaluation based off the feedback I got from my classmates and and evaluation based on a swat analysis that I did myself, on my own commissioned project.
The Focus group - 9 star rating
The participants for my focus group where categorized into 2. These were made up of 2 peers close to my age (age range 21 and 24). The 21 year old female mostly consumes news from social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook, but specifically through media organizations that use Instagram more. This includes MaltaDaily, Free hour and 897 bay. On the other hand the 24 year old male although he has general knowledge on what is published on newspapers, reads news through portals of more established newsrooms such as Times of Malta, Illum and MaltaToday.
The second category comprised of three journalists both in the digital industry and newspaper industry. Ages ranged from mid 30s to mid 40s.
Overall the feedback was quite positive. When asked whether the feel of the article was being transmitted correctly, they all agreed. Most participants had noted that colours where coherent, fonts were always the same and had the look of an actual newspaper. When it comes to conent the younger participants where affected by the length of the article however when I explained about certain techniques (such as pull-out quotes) or sectioned text, used as a technique to grab the attention of the audience, it was aggreed that this technique was effective.
The only things that where noted that could have been better were to give more attention to detail especially when it comes to text-wrapping.
2. Colleague review - Positive remarks
After presenting my final project and explaining the results of my focus group it was time to get some feedback from my colleagues and lecturers. The general feedback was that this was quite a well done spread and it was very creative, coherent and cohesive. The only things that where noted where the slight errors pointed out by the focus group as well as the quotation marks in the quote.
3. Personal Feedback - SWAT analysis
Gathering all information at hand I have decided to use the swat analysis to evaluate for the last time my project.
Strengths - the biggest strength was definitely the article and the overall presentation of the article. The feedback was generally quite good. This has defenitely been satisfactory and rewarding as I have been trying to improve my skills every year of my degree course.
Weaknesses - as mentioned previously there were certain errors that could have been improved if I had chosen to use a different program and given more attention.
Opportunities - Got the opportunity to create a two page spread on Canva. Created the columns myself by calculating the space needed. Made a flat plan of the idea beforehand.
Threats - I did not have any threats.
